Have an adoption or guardianship-related question? We have the answer. Check out these FAQs and give us a call today for more information!

  • Does the Guardianship Division for Intellectual Disabilities serve both children and adults?

The Guardianship Division for Intellectual Disabilities (GDID) only serves as a guardian for individuals 18 years and older. Contact our adoption agency at Catholic Charities North Dakota to learn more.

  • Who pays for the petitioning costs to establish guardianship with the GDID program?

If the person is being referred to our program, we have funds available to pay for the petitioning costs related to the establishment of the guardianship. If you are looking at being a guardian for your son, daughter, brother, or sister, you may be responsible for paying for those costs unless the person has the funds to pay for the petitioning costs. For further questions, get in touch with our adoption agency.

  • Who do you serve in the Guardianship Division for Intellectual Disabilities program?

GDID only serves adults with intellectual disabilities who are age 18 or older. Get in touch with our adoption agency to learn more.

  • Can I just sign up for the Guardianship Services for the Vulnerable program with you to give me advice and have you pay my bills?

No, guardianship/conservatorship is a process that must verify incapacity and go through a court process. If you have further questions, our adoption agency can help. Call us today.

  • Do you need to have insurance to receive counseling services?

No, we provide a sliding fee scale based on income for clients without insurance to make it affordable. Whether you need counseling services or an adoption agency, we're here to help!

  • Do I have to be Catholic to receive help at Catholic Charities North Dakota?

No, the Pregnancy, Parenting, and Adoption Services (PPAS) program works with women and men of all faiths. Get in touch with our adoption agency today.

  • Will you pressure me to give up my baby?

Absolutely not! The PPAS program will help you in the decision-making process by asking questions, providing the information you need to make an informed decision, and allowing you the time needed to determine what is best for you and your baby. We will not pressure you or try to persuade you. About half of the women we work with choose to parent and about half choose to make an adoption plan. Contact our parenting and adoption agency today to learn more.

  • What does it cost to receive pregnancy services from the Pregnancy, Parenting, and Adoption Services program?

Nothing! All our pregnancy and adoption services for birth mothers are completely free! That's why people come to us when they're looking for a reliable adoption agency.

  • What happens if I choose to parent rather than create an adoption plan for my child? Can you still help me?

Yes, we will help you get ready for baby! We can pass along donated baby supplies and provide parenting education to help you be the best parent possible. We are here to walk this journey with you, and we will offer support throughout your pregnancy, during labor and delivery, and even after your baby is born. Whether you need an adoption agency or just some support with your pregnancy, our team is here to help!

  • Can I choose who will adopt my baby?

Yes. Some women reach out to our agency with a relative or other family already identified that they would like to adopt their child. In these situations, Catholic Charities North Dakota assists both the adoptive family and the birth family with their adoption plan. Some women reach out to our adoption agency in search of a loving family to raise their child. Our agency has a number of families waiting to love and care for your child. Our waiting families have already been through an intensive home study process and have been approved to adopt a baby. You will be able to view their profiles and select the family that you feel would be the best option for your adoption plan.
